Grade 20MnV6 is referred to as a low alloy, high tensile material. This carbon-manganese steel 20MnV6+AR Hollow Shafts have the inclusion of vanadium, which is a microalloying element. The low content of carbon in conjunction with the addition of vanadium permits for surface hardening by several methods, including carburising, carbonitriding or nitriding. Carburising the material would entail exposing the UNS K12202 Alloy Steel Hollow Bars to a carbon rich substrate like carbon monoxide or charcoal in the presence of heat.

EN 10294-1 Grade 20MnV6+AR

The depth of carbon diffusion during carburising depends on three factors i.e the duration of the treatment, the temperature elevation as well as the area of the UNS K01907 Hollow Bars. Nitriding is a process similar to carburising, where nitrogen is diffused on the material during heat treatment. Similarly, Carbonitriding is a process wherein both carbon, as well as nitrogen atoms, are diffused interstitially into the alloy of NF A49312 20MV6 Hollow Bar. The diffusion of both these atoms formulates barriers to slip, thus enhancing the hardness, such that the Surface hardness of the treated components would range between 55 HRC to 62 HRC. Moreover, it also increases the modulus of the material near the surface. The modification done on the surface of W.Nr 1.5217 20MV6 StE 460 Hollow Bar by a Carbonitriding process not only increases its hardness, but it also improves the wear resistance of the material. Carbonitriding is often practised on economical, readily machined low carbon steel for e.g. BS4360 GR 55 Hollow Bar in order to confer the surface characteristics of more expensive and difficult to work alloy grades.  The term + AR signifies that there is no requirement of heat treating the EN 10294-1 Grade 20MnV6+AR Hollow Bar.
