Standard IS 1161 applied to carbon steel pipes, which are intended for use in structural purposes. This standard comprises of the requirements for tubes that are constructed in any of the following manner i.e. – hot finished seamless or IFS, hot finished welded or HFW and electric resistance welded or ERW as well as high frequency induction welded or HRIW. Tubes produced using standard IS 1161 YST 240 are required to be finished very clean and they must be reasonably free from scale.
Furthermore, these tubes are required to be free from surface flaws, cracks, laminations in addition to other defects. The ends of the IS1161-98 hfs yst 240 Erw Pipe must have a clean-cut and it should be squared along the axis of the pipe, except if specified otherwise.
