IS 1161 Grade YST 210 Steel Tubes for structural purposes

The IS 1161 is a standard which covers the requirements for plain carbon steel tubes for structural purposes. All the IS 1161 YST 210 / 310 / 355 Pipes produced under this standard could be produced either in a hot finished welded or as known as HFW as well as hot finished seamless. In addition, the aforementioned techniques, these pipes could be constructed by either electric resistance welded i.e. ERW or high frequency induction welded i.e. HRIW processes.  Per this standard, the designation of the IS 1161 carbon steel tubes for structural purposes must constitute details such as the nominal bore of the tube, the grade of the material as well as the classification on wall thickness.

The finishing of IS 1161 YST 22 tubes is to be clean while leaving its surface reasonably liberated from scale, along with being free from other surface flaws or defects, laminations and cracks. The ends have to have a clean cut, in the shape of a square with the axis of the IS 1161 Grade YST 310 tube, unless contrarily stipulated by the buyer. The presence of surface imperfections for e.g. light die or roll marks, handling marks, or for that matter, even shallow pits will not be acknowledged as defects. Though this holds true, provided that the flaws seen on the IS 1161 YST 355 are removable within the allowed minimum wall thickness. Generally, the elimination of these kinds of surface imperfections is not expected. Welded IS 1161 YST 210 tube needs to be free from any protruding metal on the external area of the weld seam.
